Light, architecture & a little imagination
Shanghai after dark.
Real lighting systems. An original night on the river.
Our night scene draws on supplier records, official reports and selected events. The colors, movement, brightness and lit windows are our interpretation. This is a place to wander, not a live view or a replay of a particular Shanghai light show.
Evidence has a scope
An installed system, a one-night event and a proposed upgrade tell different stories. Where a source names an entire complex, we do not assign its lighting to a particular tower or wing.
A note about this October
The city's 2026 National Day notice explicitly excludes a cross-district coordinated show along the Bund, North Bund and Little Lujiazui. Our scene makes no promise about a real-world performance or timetable. Municipal notice

Several palettes, distinct light zones
The city's visitor photograph shows cyan/blue sphere lights and pink structural accents; a photographer's April 2026 image records red/pink supports with pale sphere dots. Our Pearl separates sphere skins, bowls, shaft bays and outer columns, with slow authored palette transitions. City photograph · April 2026 photograph
A city along both banks
David Zhang's May 2019 panorama shows developed riverbanks continuing beyond the famous towers. It is a long exposure, useful for layout and lighting coverage rather than calibrated brightness. Our surrounding terrain and building footprints follow the existing mapped source data. View the panorama
Along the Bund
Twenty-seven complete source models include Peace Hotel, Customs House, the former HSBC Building and the northern frontage. Stone grain, joints and roughness give surfaces detail; reflective glass carries inferred room depth and curtains. Warm v4 grazes overlap in two height tiers and respond to cornices and recesses. Four real spotlights and two low forecourt fills serve the nearest two fronts, fade before switching buildings and turn off in daylight. They add no shadow maps. This draws on Signify's waterfront account; fixture positions and warmth are authored. Materials and lighting are approximations, not scanned facades or full indirect illumination. Individual fixtures and programs remain unverified. Supplier account · Material provenance
An interpretation you can explore
These sources establish different levels of evidence. They do not verify every light, material, display shape or show in this scene. No source photographs or show videos are reproduced here.
Four worlds along one walk
Today keeps green foliage. Cherry Bloom brings clustered pink and white flowers and falling petals; Autumn brings broad lobed plane leaves in bright yellow and gold. Far-bank tree crowns share the seasonal colors. Petals and leaves settle on the walking surfaces; occasional gusts lift a subset. Every 22 seconds, Spring also releases 176 petals from nearby crowns over four seconds. They flutter along the promenade, settle for 17–21 seconds, then fade, within a total 640-particle limit. Night changes the sky and city lights. Reduced motion freezes baseline drift and disables the extra gusts. The tree forms and planting positions are authored, drawing on Shanghai's cherry-blossom guide and seasonal overview. These do not document the actual promenade plantings. Rooftop and floating skyline gardens are disabled. Street detail provenance
A soundscape you choose
Sound starts off. Enable it for spatial river, city and foliage sounds, footsteps and occasional place cues. Four MiniMax Music 2.5 tracks follow distinct musical briefs: Today guitar/piano, Cherry Bloom marimba/harp/celesta waltz, Autumn plucked strings/cello/clarinet, and Night electric piano/bass/brushed rhythm. The v2 loops last 43.6–54 seconds and total 2.88 MB. River gain is now about 8.5 dB lower than the preceding mix, giving music and footsteps more room. Choosing Night suppresses new daytime birds; a failed automatic resume resets the control for a single-click retry. These are generated music and authored effects, not field recordings. Signal checks do not establish listening approval. Audio provenance. A separate 18-candidate audition collection retains the ten earlier previews and adds five instrumentals, two requested Mandarin songs and one Mandarin/English bilingual song. Scene, collection, style, type and mood filters support one-at-a-time playback, and song cards show original lyric briefs. These remain auditions only; the installed v2 tracks are unchanged. Performance and pronunciation await listening review.
Different skies for the seasons
Spring and Autumn use distinct CC0 HDR photographs with different cloud forms, matching environment reflections and sunlight derived from each capture. Today and Night keep their separate skies. Color grading and fog are authored. The photographs were taken elsewhere; they do not reconstruct Shanghai weather or a particular date. Sky sources and lighting derivation
A pavilion for the gift
A permanent Art Deco-inspired bronze and glass canopy adds curved fan ribs, gilded capitals, open fretwork and warm opal accents. Marble and brass inlays stay flush with the clear walking floor. Hanging lanterns remain through all seasons. This is an original design, with the existing column collisions and no moving roof growth.
A fuller skyline
Sixty detailed features combine fourteen initial landmarks, nineteen context projects and twenty-seven Bund buildings, above 6,302 mapped city masses. Six new North Bund projects add original facade detail on exact mapped footprints. Both Raffles towers are 263 m; W is about 172 m and COSCO 100 m. International Port's 70.4 m and Hyatt's 133 m remain estimates. Shapes and lighting are interpretations. Raffles architect · W architect · COSCO appraisal · Model provenance
Two optional night celebrations
The 56-second light show adds authored rooftop fans and Pearl rays, inspired by the April 2025 event photographs; reduced motion shows a still tableau. A separate 88-second fireworks display starts only when you launch it. Its virtual choreography is original. Fireworks are disabled with reduced motion and stop when you change worlds, open a dialog, hide the tab or select Stop. Spatial reports play only if Sound was already enabled. Neither display is a replay of a real Shanghai show.
Walk toward Huangpu Park
The northern route follows about 341 m of mapped footpath bends to the upper ring around the People's Heroes Memorial. The lower memorial level and bridge are not walkable. Paving, planting, furniture and elevations are inferred. Its 24 m display height follows the mapped arms' tags; published 24/50/60 m measurements conflict, so this is not a verified survey dimension. City location record · Route provenance
A restrained memorial light
Red wash and gold accents draw on the 2021 renovation account. This is an original visual interpretation of the structure, not a surveyed monument or fixture layout. Geographic water boundaries and mapped building locations remain unchanged. Renovation account
Read the map as a place
The three mapped memorial arms are represented as a monument rather than office buildings. A heightless riverside footprint becomes an inferred upper platform instead of a default 12 m block. These four corrections are separate from the 69 footprint exclusions for detailed buildings; source terrain and water stay unchanged. Official Bund planning · Correction records
Light inside the glass
Window light occupies smaller room openings within the glass, with dark margins and floor zones. Large source panels may contain several inferred rooms. Distant openings blend toward their average coverage. Up to 4× multisampling preserves geometry edges; a final spatial edge filter helps bright window stripes. Glow v2 uses 4×4 bright extraction and one quarter resolution for both blur directions, removing mismatched sizes and stretched sampling offsets that produced a grid around bright lights. Fine flecks and shimmer can remain in motion. Occupancy and interiors are synthetic; the panorama is an authored approximation, not a photoreal reconstruction.
The current CPU suites pass 25 soundscape and 10 fireworks checks. The earlier eight-check audio and nine-check geography/browser runs remain valid evidence for their tested revisions, including gift reopening and mobile reduced motion. They predate the new seasonal skies, settled/gust leaves, pavilion, warmer washes, fireworks and quieter river. The preceding ten-candidate run passed six functional checks covering all worlds, pavilion access, the full 88-second fireworks sequence, cancellation, mobile/reduced motion and all ten audition players. Its resource assertion initially logged two 404s; after the missing preview favicon was added, a separate two-check shader/resource follow-up passed without errors. The new nearby Spring gusts, Bund v4 lights, glow v2 and 18-track audition page pass eight focused GPU/browser checks locally, including desktop and mobile viewport captures, reduced-motion stability, all players and filters, with no shader/page/resource errors. Checks establish tested behavior and signal levels, not listening approval, photometric fidelity or physical-phone performance.
